Enrollment 101: FERPA Waiver
The
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
(FERPA) helps protect the privacy of student education records. The waiver allows you to tell us who can receive important information about your educational file, such as grades, bills, etc. Once you begin taking classes, each department on campus will need to verify your FERPA waiver security questions & answers before discussing your information. While this is required by law for all US citizens, Charleston Southern uses this policy for all students, regardless of citizenship. You can learn more about CSU's FERPA policies
online here
.
How do I submit my FERPA waiver?
Log into
MyCSU
and click the Student Life tab.
Scroll down to find the "Student Information Release Authorization (FERPA)" link in the bottom-right.
Make sure to fill this form out completely before submitting.
Under Student Information, select your two Security Questions & Answers
At least one Contact should be included (even if it is only yourself). For each contact that you choose to add, please provide at least a
First Name
,
Last Name
, and
Relationship
. Please note: your relationship label should be no longer than 10 characters.
Submit your waiver under the Authorization tab
Write down both of the questions and the answers that you choose for this release authorization. Both a question and an answer will be needed when you speak to CSU representatives after starting classes.
I have already submitted my FERPA waiver, but it is still marked Awaiting on my Checklist.
It takes one business day for MyCSU to notify the admissions system when your waiver has been completed.
If you submitted a waiver more than one day ago, your existing waiver is probably
incomplete
! Please review Step 3 above and ensure that your waiver is completely filled out, and then re-submit it.
